Glycerol
Crude glycerol, min. 82% (Meroco) and min. 80% (Rossi)
Crude glycerol is a liquid byproduct of biodiesel production, obtained by transesterification of fatty acids. The basic raw material used in the production is rapeseed oil, while other types of vegetable oils can be used as well (also UCO - used cooking oil).
Crude glycerol is produced by Meroco in Leopoldov (Slovakia) and by Rossi Biofuel in Komárom (Hungary). Sodium methanolate is used as a catalyst in the Meroco plant and potassium methanolate in the Rossi Biofuel plant.
Glycerol has a wide range of applications - it is used as animal feed ingredient, in biogas plants, in chemical, food, pharmaceutical and construction industries, etc.
